Relationship between the state of conservation of total protesis and amount of salival flow of elderly patients in the Canevaro asylum Lima-2018

Abstract

This research is correlational and prospective in nature. The design is observational, as the phenomena were observed without manipulating the study variable. Additionally, it is cross-sectional, as the data were collected at a single point in time. The target population for this research consisted of 100 elderly residents at the Canevaro Nursing Home. The data collection technique employed was the survey, and the instrument used was a questionnaire, which consisted of a set of items aimed at gathering relevant information to meet the research objectives. The results showed that salivary flow was as follows: 39.0% of patients had a flow rate of 0.3 to 0.5 ml/min, 32.0% had an increased flow rate of >0.5 ml/min, and 29.0% had a decreased flow rate of <0.3 ml/min. Regarding the condition of the removable dental prosthesis, 79.0% of the patients had their total removable prosthesis regularly maintained, 11.0% had a well-maintained prosthesis, and 10.0% had a poorly maintained prosthesis. Additionally, applying the Spearman's Rho correlation yielded a coefficient of 0.055 with a significance level of 0.586 (p > 0.05). The study concluded that the amount of salivary flow is not related to the condition of the total removable dental prosthesis.

La presente investigación es de tipo correlacional, prospectiva. El diseño es observacional, dado que se observó los fenómenos sin manipular la variable en estudio. Asimismo, es transeccional, ya que los datos se recolectaron en un solo momento. La población objetivo de la presente investigación estuvo constituida por 100 adultos mayores residentes en el Asilo Canevaro. La técnica de recolección de datos empleada fue la encuesta y el instrumento que se utilizó en la presente investigación fue el cuestionario, el cual estuvo constituido por un conjunto de ítems orientado a recabar información importante para el cumplimiento de los objetivos. Como resultados se obtuvo que el flujo salival presenta los siguientes resultados: El 39.0% de pacientes presenta 0.3 a 0.5 ml/min; el 32.0% presenta aumentado a > 0.5 ml/min y el 29.0% presenta disminuido a <0.3 ml/min. En relación al estado de conservación de la prótesis dental removible, se muestra que el 79.0% de los pacientes tiene la prótesis dental total removible regularmente conservada, el 11.0% tiene la prótesis buena y el 10.0% tiene la prótesis mal conservada. Por otra parte, aplicando la correlación de Rho Spearman se obtuvo un coeficiente de 0.055 con un nivel de significancia de 0.586 (p > 0.05). El estudio concluyó que la cantidad de flujo salival no tiene relación con estado de conservación de la prótesis dental total removible.
