Level of knowledge of the elderly about type 2 diabetes mellitus and its relationship in the prevention of complications, medicine hospitalization service, in a hospital in Lima, year 2022.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a widespread and well-known pathology, common in the elderly population, given that its prevalence increases with age. At 75 years of age, about 20% of the population has it and 44% of those affected by diabetes are over 65 years of age. Objective: To determine the relationship between the level of knowledge of older adults with type 2 diabetes and the prevention of complications, Hospitalization Service of Medicine in a Hospital in Lima, year 2022. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional analysis will be carried out on a sample consisting of 75 diabetic older adults, who are admitted to the hospital. This work is based on an investigative process that begins with the recognition of the situation, which allows us to admit that we have proposed a hypothesis that temporarily clarifies the problem so that it can be proposed for verification; which may be rejected or supported.

La diabetes mellitus (DM) patología muy extendida y conocida, común en la población anciana, dado que es mayor su predominio con el avance de los años. A los 75 años, cerca del 20 % de la población la tiene y el 44 % de los afectados por la diabetes son mayores de 65 años. Objetivo: Determinar la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento de los adultos mayores con diabetes tipo 2 y la prevención de complicaciones, Servicio de Hospitalización de Medicina en un Hospital de Lima, año 2022. Método: Se realizará un análisis descriptivo transversal en una muestra constituida por 75 adultos mayores diabéticos, que ingresan al hospital. Este trabajo se basa en un proceso investigativo que comienza con el reconocimiento de la situación, lo que nos permite admitir que hemos propuesto una hipótesis que aclara temporalmente el problema para que se proponga para su verificación; la cual podrá ser rechazada o respaldada.
