Critical review: probiotic supplementation in the management of overweight or obese patients

Abstract

The secondary research titled 'Probiotic Supplementation for the Management of Overweight or Obese Patients' aimed to determine the effect of probiotic supplementation in managing overweight or obese adult patients. The clinical question was: What effect does probiotic supplementation have on managing overweight or obese patients? The Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) methodology was used. Information was searched in PUBMED, SCIELO, and SCIENCE DIRECT, finding 35 articles. After filtering, 16 were selected and evaluated using the CASPE critical reading tool. Finally, a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials titled 'Effects of probiotics on body adiposity and cardiovascular risk markers in overweight and obese individuals' was chosen, possessing an AI level of evidence and a strong recommendation grade. The critical commentary concluded that probiotic supplementation has a modest beneficial effect on body weight and adiposity in overweight and obese individuals, suggesting a potential complementary therapeutic approach.

La invesstigación tuvo como objetivo realizar una revisión de la literatura científica en relación con la presencia de síndrome metabólico en trabajadores asistenciales de salud con turnos rotativos. La metodología empleada fue la Nutrición Basada en la Evidencia (NUBE). Para la búsqueda se consideraron descriptores MeSH y DeCS, las que se realizaron en las bases de datos: PUBMED, Scielo, Redalyc, Science Direct y BVS, se encontró 105 artículos, luego de la lectura se seleccionaron 16 artículos. Se seleccionó la revisión sistemática, Systematic review of shift work and nurses' health, que fue evaluado con la herramienta CASPe, la que presenta un nivel de evidencia I y un grado de recomendación B. Las conclusiones obtenidas nos permiten constatar una estrecha relación entre el horario rotativo con enfermedades metabólicas mediadas por un proceso inflamatorio sistémico
