This study aims to determine the alterations of acute phase proteins in patients diagnosed with COVID-19 at a polyclinic in Lima, Peru, from April to September 2020. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 1,393 results, and a sample of 473 patients from the ROAL Polyclinic in Los Olivos district was analyzed. Serum concentrations of COVID-19 patients were evaluated using IgG, IgM, or both rapid tests. The analyzed acute phase proteins included C-reactive protein (CRP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), cortisol, and D-dimer. Patients of both genders, aged 18 to 96, with an inflammatory profile available (for PCR, LDH, ferritin, D-dimer, and Interleukin 6), and positive rapid or molecular tests for SARS-CoV-2, in mild, moderate, and severe stages, with a history of chronic diseases (diabetes mellitus and hypertension), were included. The main objective was to describe the alterations in serum inflammatory markers according to the severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients at the Hospital de Apoyo Departamental María Auxiliadora, Lima, 2020. Materials and Methods: The study will use a deductive, non-experimental, and cross-sectional design to determine the relationship between the variables. The sample will consist of a total of 77 children aged 6-11 years with tinea capitis treated at a private laboratory in Lima between January and March 2024. Results: This research prioritized studying the frequency and relationship between dermatophytes and associated factors in children aged 6 to 11 years. The results showed that 39% of children had dermatophytes, with the presence of Trichophyton tonsurans (33.8%), Microsporum canis (3.9%), and Microsporum gypseum (1.3%). Conclusion: It was determined that there is no relationship between different demographic, socioeconomic, and environmental factors. Therefore, evaluating cardiovascular risk (CVR) in asymptomatic individuals who present risk factors is the main strategy. However, there is a need to identify new biomarkers that facilitate identification. RDW is known for its association with cardiovascular diseases, and research suggests a prognostic value for RDW. The objective was to investigate whether there is an association between cardiovascular risk and red cell distribution width (RDW) in occupational patients from the “Laura Calle Ibérico” polyclinic. Methods: The sample consisted of 201 occupational patients from the Laura Calle Ibérico polyclinic. The HEARTS application from PAHO was used to calculate CVR, and RDW, cholesterol, glucose, and other demographic data were collected on a data collection form. Results: No significant association was found between RDW and CVR (P=0.345), or between RDW, CVR, and cholesterol (P=0.97). However, an association was found between RDW, CVR, and age (P=0.000), RDW, CVR, and blood pressure (P=0.04), diabetes (P=0.00), and smoking habits (P=0.01). Furthermore, 23% of patients are at risk of developing cardiovascular issues within 10 years if corrective measures are not taken.Ítem Acceso abierto Association of serum cortisol levels and burnout syndrome in workers of the clinical pathology service of the Hospital Nacional Docente Madre Niño San Bartolomé, 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-04-28) Bermudo Rodriguez, Juana Rosa; Valenzuela Martinez, Stefany SaragozaA descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 81 workers, including both male and female volunteers over 18 years old, medical laboratory technicians, clinical and pathological anatomy technologists, and pathologists. Cortisol concentration was measured, and the Maslach questionnaire was used to determine burnout syndrome. The participants had an average age of 42 ± 10.3 years (range 21 to 67 years), with 41 (50.6%) being female. The most frequent age groups were 31 to 40 years and 51 to 65 years, both accounting for 34.6%. Of the participants, 48 (59.3%) were medical technologists, 29 (35.8%) were laboratory technicians, and 3 (3.7%) were pathologists. The most common length of service was 1 to 10 years (43.2%), followed by 11 to 20 years (24.7%). Burnout syndrome was evident in 24 (29.6%), 64 (79%), and 72 (88.9%) participants in the emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment dimensions, respectively. A correlation was found between serum cortisol concentrations in the first morning analysis (A.M.) and all three burnout dimensions. In COVID-19 infection, the NLR has gained significance for determining severity and predicting mortality in infected patients. This thesis seeks to associate the NLR with the mortality of COVID-19 patients at the San Isidro Labrador Geriatric Clinic, Lima, from October 2020 to February 2021. The study evaluated 180 patients diagnosed with COVID-19, using hematological values to determine the NLR and seek associations using SPSS. It found that 72.8% of deceased patients were male, with an average age of 76.1 years. The odds ratio was calculated, revealing that patients with an NLR >7 had a 9.7 times higher risk of death. The logistic regression analysis found that patients with elevated NLR had 1.5 times higher mortality risk (p: 0.000). This study aimed to "Determine which bacterial agents are most predominant in diabetic feet isolated in the central laboratory of the María Auxiliadora Departmental Hospital in Lima, Peru, during the 2019 period." The methodology used was an observational, cross-sectional, and descriptive study. A total of 181 positive culture data with their respective susceptibility profiles were analyzed, concluding that the predominant bacterial agents were Gram-negative bacteria (63%), with the most frequent being Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris, and Morganella morganii. An increase in prevalence has been reported, especially in the northern regions of Peru, making it necessary to strengthen health services for timely detection and treatment. This correlational and descriptive research includes a population of 7,515 women of reproductive age, with a sample of 366 Papanicolaou smears from positive cervical samples. The objective is to identify the association between bacterial vaginosis and atypical squamous cells diagnosed through cytological screening in the Public Health Reference Laboratory of Sullana, 2019-2020. The study aims to detect vaginal infections like Gardnerella vaginalis and pre-malignant lesions like ASC-US and ASC-H, and establish the relationship between bacterial vaginosis and atypical squamous cells in the northern population of Peru, where local and regional studies on this issue are lacking. This situation worsens when the person (driver) has previously consumed alcoholic beverages, impairing reaction capacity, which often leads to fatal events. This study aims to understand whether there is a relationship between traffic accidents and blood alcohol levels in drivers examined at the UNIDDE-PNP, Angamos headquarters in 2020. A descriptive, retrospective, and cross-sectional study was conducted. The sample included 147 drivers who underwent an alcohol testing and had a positive result, and also participated in traffic accidents. The results from the alcohol testing certificates revealed that, according to the blood alcohol level, 52.4% (77) were in the drunken state, 34.7% (51) in absolute drunkenness, 10.9% (16) in subclinical state, and 2% (3) in severe alteration. According to age, the group aged 18-29 years had 40.1% (59), 30-40 years had 27.2% (40), 41-50 years had 23.9% (35), and 51-60 years had 8.8% (13). According to gender, 95.2% (140) were male and 4.8% (7) female. Regarding accident types, collision was 66.6% (98), skidding 23.8% (35), pedestrian hit 4.8% (7), and others (overturn and fire) 4.8% (7). Regarding vehicle type, 72.1% (106) were private vehicles, 17% (25) motorcycles, 5.5% (8) public transport, 3.4% (5) bicycles, and 2% (3) tricycles. The factors predisposing patients to a severe state during COVID-19 include variables such as age (over 65 years), heart and vascular diseases, chronic kidney disease, chronic lung diseases, diabetes mellitus, obesity, neoplasms, immunosuppression, and pregnancy. The pandemic has caused high lethality in the Lambayeque region, overwhelming hospitals. Certainly, it is everyone's task to contribute to stopping the outbreaks that have emerged in such a short time; therefore, the general population is advised to follow all recommendations to prevent infection. Hematological testing is one of the most important laboratory tests, which through a complete blood count can identify imbalances in the patient's body and help determine the appropriate treatment. Lima, 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-11-06) Aquino Fernandez, Anderson Felix; Tamayo Toro, Mónica AlexandraObjective: To identify the relationship between Burnout Syndrome (BOS) and associated factors in the laboratory staff at SYNLAB Central Headquarters during the COVID-19 pandemic in Lima, 2022. Materials and methods: A data collection form was used to gather information on biological, personal, work-related, and economic factors, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory - HSS was employed. Results: The found burnout level was medium (73.5%), followed by low and high levels (22.5% and 3.9%, respectively). The study population consisted of 74.5% females, with 50% in the 20-30 age group, and 66.7% expressed moderate satisfaction with their salary. A Spearman Rho of 0.875 with a p-value ≥0.05 indicated no correlation between the associated factors and BOS; however, a statistically significant relationship was found between BOS, age, and satisfaction with remuneration (p-values of 0.00 and 0.042, respectively). Conclusion: No correlation was found between associated factors and burnout syndrome, but there was a statistically significant relationship between BOS, age, and satisfaction with salary.Ítem Acceso abierto C-Reactive Protein and Its Relationship with Risk Factors Associated with Metabolic Syndrome in Maintenance Workers Assisted for an Occupational Health Evaluation in 2016(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017-11-10) Vásquez Mosanapón, Juana Iris; Benites Azabache, Juan CarlosObjective: To establish the relationship between C-reactive protein (CRP) levels and risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome in maintenance workers undergoing Occupational Health assessments in 2016. The study type was quantitative, prospective, cross-sectional, descriptive. Maintenance workers who underwent annual health checks at an occupational health laboratory in 2016 were tested for glucose, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and measurements of waist circumference and blood pressure. These results were compared with CRP levels. Regarding the Spearman correlations between CRP and factors associated with metabolic syndrome, a correlation coefficient of 0.190 was observed with a significance of 0.086, indicating no significant relationship with CRP. However, a significant relationship was found between glucose and CRP in this population, with a correlation coefficient of 0.291 and a significance of 0.008. They also facilitate the reading of qualitative data by transforming it into quantitative, thus avoiding subjectivity between operators. This improves quality, time, and costs, offering a better outlook with enhanced education and training. The objective of this study is to analyze cellular descriptors in plasmacytes from bone marrow smears of patients with hematologic neoplasms at INEN in 2021. This study focuses on hematologic neoplasms, particularly plasma cell neoplasms, where plasmocytes proliferate and migrate to peripheral blood in advanced stages of the disease. Proper diagnosis in bone marrow smears is critical for timely intervention. Using our image database and cellular descriptors, plasmocytes will be described geometrically and colorimetrically.
