(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2025-04-06) Ortiz Cieza, Ortencia; Molina Torres, José Gregorio

Level of knowledge and degree of anxiety of the preoperative patient in minor surgery of a National Hospital, Lima - 2022
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-09-04) Rosas Torres, Beatriz Felicita; Molina Torres, Jose Gregorio
Objective: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and the degree of anxiety in preoperative patients undergoing minor surgery at a national hospital in Lima-2022, considering that the perception of danger or threat is always a defense mechanism of the body for its protection. However, in the presence of various pathologies that can only be solved through surgery, it is necessary to control this perception in order to achieve a curative treatment for patients. Methodology: The methodology of this research project is hypothetical-deductive, with a quantitative approach, applied, non-experimental, and descriptive-correlational. A total of 130 preoperative patients will be included, which is the total population; however, a significant sample of 73 patients will be needed. Conclusion: Most patients had a low level of knowledge regarding preoperative information. Furthermore, a large number of patients reported a moderate level of anxiety, and this data was collected using the IDARE-I questionnaire, which assesses trait-state anxiety as proposed by Spielberger. All ethical principles were considered during the data collection process and in the analysis.

Pre-operative information and pre-operative anxiety in patients of the surgery service of a national hospital in Lima, 2021
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-01-09) Guillén Paseta, Tatiana Milagros; Uturunco Vera, Milagros Lizbeth
Preoperative anxiety is diverse, including high readmission rate, prolonged hospital stay, negative influence during anesthetic induction and patient recovery, and decreased patient satisfaction with perioperative care. Mortality and morbidity associated with preoperative anxiety are most likely due to major cardiovascular problems associated with health-related behaviors such as smoking, poor diet, poor treatment compliance or an inactive lifestyle and direct influence on myocardial perfusion. However, the body of evidence on the global prevalence and determinants of preoperative anxiety among surgical patients is still under study. A common low level of anxiety is an expected reaction to unpredictable and potentially life-threatening circumstances, especially for a patient's first surgical experience. However, a higher and prolonged level of preoperative anxiety results in delayed wound healing, in addition to requiring higher doses of anesthetics and poor recovery.

Preoperative anxiety and coping styles in patients from a clinic in Metropolitan Lima, 2021
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-11-17) Samanez Pimentel, Vanesa Paola; Uturunco Vera, Milagros Lizbeth
The present study aims to determine the relationship between preoperative anxiety and coping styles to stress in patients at a clinic in Metropolitan Lima. Methodology: A quantitative approach was used to study the variables, with an applied type, hypothetical-deductive method, non-experimental design, and descriptive and correlational level. From a population of 244 patients over two months of care, a representative sample of 150 was obtained through simple random sampling. Two main tests were administered: the Spielberger Anxiety Rating Scale (IDARE) to measure preoperative anxiety and the Brief COPE (Coping Estimation) Questionnaire to assess coping styles. Results: Among the patients surveyed at a clinic in Metropolitan Lima, 57.33% reported a high level of preoperative anxiety, 26.00% had a moderate level, and 16.67% had a low level. Regarding coping styles, 65.33% of the patients exhibited a moderate level of coping styles, 32.00% had a high level, and 2.67% had a low level. Conclusion: It is concluded that there is an inverse and moderate relationship (Rho = -0.519) between preoperative anxiety and coping styles, which is statistically significant (p = 0.000 < 0.050). This means that when preoperative anxiety is high or moderate, coping styles are low.
