Level of knowledge and frequency of omega-3 consumption in teachers of the Professional Academic School of Nutrition and Dietetics of the Norbert Wiener Private University, 2023
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-12-15) Valverde Solorzano, Diana Lucero; Bravo Araujo, Gloria Tula
The rapid international spread of SARS-CoV-2 - responsible for causing the Covid 19 disease - has affected more than 52 million inhabitants and has generated more than 1.29 million deaths in the world. The most vulnerable people to this disease have mainly been people who have had respiratory complications, chronic non-communicable diseases and other comorbidities. Faced with this inflammatory condition, omega 3 fatty acids produce fewer proinflammatory cytokines, therefore, an adequate intake of these omega 3 fatty acids can improve immune function and reduce the severity of people diagnosed with Covid 19. On the other hand Currently, the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases continues to grow alarmingly in each age group, with the adult stage being the one with the highest risk of mortality, which is why diet plays a predominant role in the preventive issue. There is scientific evidence that shows that omega 3 fatty acids are directly related to reducing cardiovascular risk. EPA (eicosapentaenoic) and DHA (docosahexaenoic) have shown great effectiveness in the preventive aspect of various pathologies, which include joint diseases, cardiovascular diseases, neuronal complications and cancer, for this reason they become of utmost importance since they cannot be synthesized by the body, for that reason they must be obtained through the diet.
