Digital morphometry and positional parameters of monocytes in patients with sepsis in the laboratory of a level III-1 hospital in Lima, January - June 2024
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-12-03) Ramos Rojas, Mady Canelú; Avelino Callupe, Paul Fortunato
In sepsis, monocyte numbers increase, resulting in monocytosis, which is morphologically evident as enlarged cells with vacuoles and finer chromatin in peripheral smear analysis. However, some alterations are undetectable through microscopic observation, requiring novel methods like digital image processing. This method enhances information retrieval by allowing the scientific visualization of numerous digital images, enabling the study of hematological alterations related to specific diseases.

Effectiveness of early administration of antibiotic therapy to decrease mortality in patients with severe sepsis in emergency.
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-03-07) Causillas Acevedo, Fraxides; Medina Julon, Luz Anita; Uturunco Vera, Milagros Lizbeth
Introduction: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 31 million people suffer from an episode of sepsis each year. Of these, approximately 6 million people die from sepsis. In low- and middle-income countries, the burden of sepsis is higher and represents one of the main causes of maternal and neonatal death. (5) In Peru, there are no systematized national epidemiological data on morbidity and mortality associated with sepsis. In primary studies carried out in different hospitals in Peru, it was determined that the mortality rate associated with sepsis varies from 25.3% to 40%, increasing according to the risk factors associated with each population studied.(6)

Immature platelet fraction and thrombocytopenia in patients with sepsis care at the San José del Callao hospital-Peru, period january to april 2024
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-12-03) Chambi Cunga, Isabel Rosa; Astete Medrano, Delia Jessica
Thrombocytopenia is defined as a reduction in the number of circulating platelets in the blood, leading to a platelet count of less than 150,000/μl. This condition can result in potentially severe hemorrhagic complications. Therefore, there is a clear need for extensive research analyzing the relationship between immature platelet fraction and thrombocytopenia in patients with sepsis treated at the San José Hospital in Callao. The purpose of this study is to identify possible correlations, establish patterns, and provide a more comprehensive approach for managing and treating patients with thrombocytopenia caused by sepsis in this hospital setting.

Neutrophil/Lymphocyte index and procalcitonin index in patients with sepsis hospitalized in a private clinic, Lima 2021
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-05-07) Limaymanta Cárdenas, Milagros del Rosario; Avelino Callupe, Paul Fortunato
Sepsis is one of the leading causes of high hospitalization rates and mortality in intensive care units for both adults and newborns. Sepsis diagnosis is often delayed due to symptom similarities with other conditions. Various diagnostic methods, such as procalcitonin levels and blood culture (hemoculture), are used, but not all healthcare centers have access to these tests due to shortages of materials and high costs. Thus, there is a need to explore the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio as a low-cost alternative and easy-to-access marker for presuming sepsis diagnosis.
