| es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | The determination of glucose in urine constitutes an important tool in the monitoring and management of patients with diabetes mellitus, as it allows the detection of metabolic alterations associated with elevated glucose levels in the body. The aim of this study was to determine and compare the presence of glucose in urine using Benedict’s reagent and urine reagent strips in diabetic patients, also considering variables such as sex and age. The research was conducted using the hypothetical–deductive method, which allowed the formulation of a hypothesis based on theoretical and scientific foundations, subsequently tested through the analysis of results obtained from the diagnostic tests performed on the patients. The study population consisted of 80 diabetic patients. The results showed that most patients with normal urinary glucose levels presented negative results in both tests. Using Benedict’s reagent, 90.3% of patients showed negative results and 9.7% positive results; whereas among patients with elevated urinary glucose levels, 53.1% showed positive results. In contrast, the urine reagent strip indicated that 100% of patients with normal urinary glucose levels had negative results, while 34.7% of patients with elevated glucose levels obtained positive results. Differences were also identified according to sex and age, with a higher proportion of positive results observed among female patients and in the age group of 31 years and older. Finally, statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between Benedict’s reagent and urine reagent strips in the determination of urinary glucose in diabetic patients (p < 0.006). In conclusion, both methods demonstrate diagnostic usefulness for the detection of glucosuria, evidencing a significant relationship between the tests employed. | en_US |
