Correlación entre la edad cronológica y la edad estimada a partir de la maduración dental en pacientes de 8 – 21 años del Centro Dental San Cristóbal, Lima 2025

Abstract

Determinar la correlación entre la edad cronológica y la edad estimada a partir de la maduración dental en pacientes de 8 a 21 años atendidos en el Centro Dental San Cristóbal, Lima 2025. Se desarrolló un estudio de tipo no experimental y retrospectivo donde se evaluó 205 radiografías panorámicas, la técnica utilizada fue la observación y como instrumento se aplicó una ficha de recolección de datos, para la estimación de la edad dental se empleó el método de Demirjian, contrastando los estadios de maduración del canino mandibular izquierdo y del tercer molar inferior izquierdo con tablas de referencia. Los resultados evidenciaron una correlación positiva y significativa entre la edad cronológica y la edad estimada en ambas piezas dentarias siendo para el canino mandibular izquierdo (8 a 13 años), un coeficiente de Rho = 0.842; p < 0.001, confirmando una alta confiabilidad del método en edades pediátricas y preadolescentes y en el caso del tercer molar inferior izquierdo (14 a 21 años), la correlación también fue fuerte (Rho = 0.801; p < 0.001), lo que respalda la utilidad del método en adolescentes y jóvenes. Asimismo, al analizar las diferencias por sexo, se encontraron correlaciones tanto en varones (Rho = 0.839) como en mujeres (Rho = 0.829). Se concluye que sí existe una correlación significativa y positiva entre la edad cronológica y la edad estimada mediante la maduración dental con el método de Demirjian en pacientes de 8 a 21 años del Centro Dental San Cristóbal, Lima 2025.

Determine the correlation between chronological age and estimated age from dental maturation in patients aged 8 to 21 years treated at the Centro Dental San Cristóbal, Lima 2025. A non-experimental and retrospective study was developed where 205 panoramic radiographs were evaluated, the technique used was observation and a data collection form was applied as an instrument, to estimate dental age the Demirjian method was used, contrasting the maturation stages of the left mandibular canine and the lower left third molar with reference tables. The results showed a positive and significant correlation between chronological age and estimated age in both teeth, being for the left mandibular canine (8 to 13 years), a Rho coefficient = 0.842; p < 0.001, confirming a high reliability of the method in pediatric and preadolescent ages and in the case of the lower left third molar (14 to 21 years), the correlation was also strong (Rho = 0.801; p < 0.001), supporting the usefulness of the method in adolescents and young people. Likewise, when analyzing the differences by sex, correlations were found in both males (Rho = 0.839) and females (Rho = 0.829). It is concluded that there is a significant and positive correlation between chronological age and the age estimated by dental maturation with the Demirjian method in patients aged 8 to 21 years at Centro Dental San Cristóbal, Lima 2025.
