| es_ES |
| dc.description.abstract | The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between joint hyperlaxity and temporomandibular disorders in patients at a private dental center in Lima (2026). The research employed a quantitative approach and was an applied, non-experimental, correlational, and cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 104 patients of both sexes treated at a private dental center, selected via simple random sampling. Data collection involved the use of the Beighton Scale to assess joint hyperlaxity and the Fonseca Anamnestic Index to identify the presence and severity of temporomandibular disorders. Data were processed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25; descriptive statistics and Pearson's chi-square test were used to determine the relationship between variables, with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that 42.3% of the patients exhibited joint hyperlaxity, while 41.3% presented with temporomandibular disorders. Additionally, 40.4% presented with both conditions simultaneously. Inferential analysis demonstrated a statistically significant relationship between joint hyperlaxity and temporomandibular disorders (p < 0.05). These findings highlight the importance of incorporating the assessment of joint hyperlaxity into the clinical evaluation of patients suspected of having temporomandibular disorders. It is concluded that joint hyperlaxity is significantly associated with the presence of temporomandibular disorders in the patients evaluated. | en_US |
