This study aimed to evaluate the effect of citric acid on the microhardness and erosion of human dental enamel at different concentrations (1%, 3%, and 5%) using an in vitro experimental design. The research employed a quantitative approach and experimental design. Human teeth were randomly assigned to three experimental groups and treated with citric acid at varying concentrations. Evaluation was performed using the Vickers hardness method and mass loss analysis, recording values before and after the acid challenge. Statistical analysis included Shapiro-Wilk normality tests, one-way ANOVA, paired Student's t-test, and Tukey's post-hoc test, with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results demonstrated a significant decrease in both microhardness and mass across all evaluated groups following acid exposure (p = 0.000). The overall ANOVA revealed significant differences regarding the impact of the various concentrations tested (p = 0.000). The most relevant finding was obtained through Tukey's post hoc test applied to microhardness values, which indicated a significant difference between the 1% and 3% concentrations (p = 0.000), and between the 1% and 5% concentrations (p = 0.000); however, no significant differences were found when comparing the 3% and 5% concentrations (p = 0.631). It is concluded that citric acid exerts a severe erosive effect on dental enamel in vitro, with a demineralization saturation effect observed from the 3% concentration onward.en_US
