Objective: To determine the level of knowledge and practice regarding oral hygiene in mothers of children aged 6 to 9 years from the San Martín School in the district of Chorrillos - Lima, 2021. Material and Method: This research was applied, explanatory deductive, descriptive, cross-sectional, prospective, and quantitative. A measurement was carried out using a 12-question questionnaire on oral hygiene knowledge and a 9-question survey on oral hygiene practices. Results: The sample consisted of 130 mothers of children aged 6 to 9 years to whom the questionnaire was applied. The results show that regarding oral hygiene knowledge and practice in mothers of children aged 6 to 9 years from the San Martín School in Chorrillos - Lima 2021, it was found that they all had poor oral hygiene knowledge (100%, N=130), and the practice of oral hygiene was also poor in all (100%, N=130). As for the knowledge of oral hygiene by age, it was observed that people aged 18 to 29 years and 30 to 59 years had poor knowledge (100%). In terms of education level, all categories such as no education, primary, secondary, and higher education had poor oral hygiene knowledge (100%). Regarding the practice of oral hygiene by age, both age groups (18 to 29 years and 30 to 59 years) had poor oral hygiene practices (100%). According to education level, all education categories (no education, primary, secondary, and higher education) had poor oral hygiene practices (100%). Regarding the relationship between knowledge level and oral hygiene practices, no significant relationship was found. Conclusion: It is observed that all mothers had poor oral hygiene knowledge and low oral hygiene practices. Knowledge was poor across all age groups and educational levels, and practices were low in all groups. No relationship exists between knowledge level and practices.
Resumen
Objetivo: Determinar el nivel de conocimiento y la práctica sobre la higiene bucal en madres de niños de 6 a 9 años de edad que pertenecen a la I.E. San Martín del distrito de Chorrillos - Lima 2021. Material y Método: Esta investigación fue aplicada, explicativa deductiva, descriptiva, transversal, prospectiva y cuantitativa. Se realizó una medición mediante un cuestionario de conocimientos en higiene bucal de 12 preguntas y una encuesta de prácticas de higiene bucal de 9 preguntas Resultado: La muestra obtenida fue de 130 madres de niños de 6 a 9 años a quienes se les aplicó el cuestionario, los resultados demuestran que según Nivel de conocimiento y la práctica sobre la higiene bucal en madres de niños de 6 a 9 años de edad que pertenecen a la I.E. San Martín del distrito de Chorrillos - Lima 2021, se aprecia que presentaron un conocimiento de higiene bucal malo en un 100% (N°=130), además la práctica de higiene bucal fue baja en un 100% (N°=130); en cuanto a los conocimientos de higiene bucal según edad, se aprecia que las personas de 18 a 29 años y de 30 a 59 años presentaron un conocimiento malo en un 100%, según grado de instrucción tales como son: sin ninguna instrucción, primaria, secundaria y con instrucción superior, en su totalidad presentaron un conocimiento de higiene bucal malo con 100%; en cuanto a las prácticas de higiene bucal, según edad, se aprecia que ambos grupo etáreos de madres tales como: de 18 a 29 años y de 30 a 59 años, en su totalidad presentaron la práctica sobre la higiene bucal baja con 100%; según instrucción, se aprecia, se observa, que todos los grupos de madres según grado de instrucción tales como son: sin ninguna instrucción, primaria, secundaria y con instrucción superior, en su totalidad presentaron la práctica sobre la higiene bucal baja con 100%. En cuanto a la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y las prácticas de higiene bucal no existe relación. Conclusión: se aprecia que la totalidad de las madres presentaron un conocimiento de higiene bucal malo, así como la práctica de higiene bucal que también fue baja en su totalidad; en cuanto a los conocimientos ambos grupos de edades y todas las clasificaciones de grados de instrucción fue malo en su totalidad; en cuanto a las prácticas ambos grupos de edades y todas las clasificaciones de grados de instrucción fue baja en su totalidad, Ne existe relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y las prácticas.
