Effectiveness of glutaraldehyde 2% as a high-level disinfectant for laparoscopic material in preventing surgical wound infections.

Objective: To systematize evidence on the effectiveness of 2% Glutaraldehyde as a high-level disinfectant for laparoscopic material in preventing surgical wound infection. Materials and Methods: Systematic Review synthesizing the results of primary research studies. The search was restricted to full-text articles, and selected articles were subjected to critical reading, using the GRADE system to assign the strength of recommendation. Five articles were chosen, with 80% (2) from Brazil and (2) from Colombia, and 20% (1) from Sri Lanka. The majority of studies were Systematic Reviews, with 40% from Brazil and Colombia. Among experimental studies, 20% were from Colombia with case-control studies in Brazil and Sri Lanka, representing 40%. Results: 100% of the articles analyzed indicated that 2% Glutaraldehyde as a high-level disinfectant for laparoscopic material is effective against Mycobacterium Marsillense under conditions of improper handling of the disinfectant, and that following proper use and handling protocols, it remains the first-choice high-level disinfectant for this material. Conclusions: 10/10 articles showed the effectiveness of 2% Glutaraldehyde as a high-level disinfectant for laparoscopic material in preventing surgical wound infection, as long as the established protocols for its use and handling are strictly followed.
Resumen
Objetivo: Sistematizar evidencias sobre efectividad del Glutaraldehido al 2% como desinfectante de alto nivel para material laparoscópico, en la prevención de infección de herida operatoria. Materiales y Métodos: Revisión Sistemática de síntesis de los resultados de investigaciones primarias, la búsqueda se restringió a artículos con texto completo, y artículos seleccionados siendo sometidos a lectura crítica, utilizando el sistema grade para asignar la fuerza de recomendación. Se eligieron 5 artículos, encontramos que el 80 % (02) corresponden a Brasil y (02) Colombia y con un 20% (01) encontramos Sri Lanka. Los Estudios mayormente Revisiones Sistemáticas, con un 40% principalmente en los países de Brasil y Colombia. Entre estudios Experimental encontramos con 20% a Colombia con Casos y Controles a Brasil y Sri Lanka con un 40%. Resultados: Donde el 100% de artículos analizados refiere que el Glutaraldehido al 2% como desinfectante de alto nivel en material laparoscópico presenta resistencia a Mycobacteria Marsillense, bajo condiciones de manejo inadecuado del desinfectante y que estableciendo normas y protocolos de uso y manejo sigue siendo el desinfectante de alto nivel de primera elección para este material. Conclusiones: El 10/10 de artículos evidenció que existe Efectividad del Glutaraldehido al 2% como Desinfectante de alto nivel para material laparoscópico previniendo la infección de heridas operatorias siempre y cuando se cumpla estrictamente las normas y protocolos para su uso y manejo.
