Effectiveness of lidocaine in reducing pain during nasogastric tube insertion

Abstract

The systematic reviews of the 10 scientific articles on the effectiveness of lidocaine to reduce the pain in the insertion of the nasogastric tube, 90% refer that lidocaine is effective in reducing the pain in the insertion of the nasogastric tube, only 10% report that it does not reduce the pain, concluding the administration of lidocaine, either in its different presentations as a gel, atomized or nebulized, reduces the pain always and when it is administered 5 minutes before each nasogastric tube insertion, being the most nebulized is effective as it reduces pain by up to 57.7%.
