Objective: The objective of the study is to determine the level of knowledge about Exclusive Breastfeeding (EBF) in postpartum mothers at a hospital in Lima, 2020. Material and Method: This is a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study, with a sample of 142 postpartum mothers. A survey on Exclusive Breastfeeding, previously used by Rocano Nhuria, was employed. Results: According to the results obtained from the sample, 50.70% have a medium level of knowledge regarding exclusive breastfeeding, while 25.35% have a low level, and 23.94% have a high level. 54.93% have medium knowledge regarding the basic concepts of EBF, 19.72% have low knowledge, and 25.35% have high knowledge. 52.11% have medium knowledge about the advantages of breastfeeding, 23.24% have low knowledge, and 24.65% have high knowledge. Regarding the nutritional composition of breast milk, 47.89% have medium knowledge, 28.17% have low knowledge, and 23.94% have high knowledge. 46.48% have medium knowledge about the mechanism of milk production, 30.28% have low knowledge, and 23.24% have high knowledge. 52.11% have medium knowledge regarding breastfeeding technique, 23.94% have low knowledge, and 23.94% have high knowledge. Conclusions: The majority of mothers have a medium level of knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding. Knowledge of the basic concepts of EBF developed at a medium level for most postpartum mothers. Most mothers had a medium level of knowledge about the advantages of breastfeeding. Mothers showed a medium level of knowledge about the nutritional composition of breast milk. Most mothers had a medium level of knowledge about the mechanism of milk production. The majority of mothers had a medium level of knowledge about breastfeeding technique.
Resumen
Introducción: Según la organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), recomienda como único alimento a la leche de la madre durante los seis primeros meses de forma exclusiva, y luego de los seis primeros meses de vida del recién nacido se complementará su nutrición con otros tipos de alimentos suministrados gradualmente, en cuanto a lactancia materna se recomienda hasta los dos años. Objetivo: Determinar el nivel de conocimiento sobre Lactancia Materna Exclusiva en madres Puérperas en un Hospital de Lima 2021. Metodología: Se realizó un estudio de tipo descriptivo de corte transversal. La población de estudio está conformada por 224 madres puérperas que se encuentran hospitalizadas, de las cuales se obtuvo una muestra de 142 madres puérperas, a las que se aplicó como instrumento la encuesta denominado evaluación sobre Lactancia Materna Exclusiva. Los datos obtenidos fueron tabulados y procesados estadísticamente, aplicando el software programa estadístico IBM SPSS Statistics versión 25.0, posteriormente se exporto al programa estadístico Excel 2019 para realizar los análisis estadísticos con sus respectivas tablas y gráficos.
