Eating habits and the nutritional status of adolescents in the 4th-5th grade of secondary school at the Melchorita Saravia-Chincha 2023 secondary educational institution

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between eating habits and the nutritional status of adolescents in the 4th-5th grade of secondary school at the Melchorita Saravia-Chincha 2023 secondary educational institution. The research was hypotheticaldeductive method, quantitative approach, applied type, non-experimental design and correlational scope. The population consisted of 140 adolescents with a sample of 105 adolescents. The instrument was a validated and reliable questionnaire and collection sheet. The results refer that 40.0% (42) had 15 years followed by 35.2% (37) of 16 years, in terms of sex, 50.65% (53) were female; Eating habits were adequate in the dimensions: type of food with 61% (64), frequency with 53.3% (56), place with 70.5% (74), beliefs with 62.9% (66) and economy. with 74.3%; while the time dimension was inadequate in 79.0% (83). The nutritional status was normal in 75.2% (79) of the cases, overweight in 21% (22) and obesity in 3.8% (4), regarding the correlation of variables, no significant associations were found. between eating habits and nutritional status being rho=-0.117 and p=0.235; however, a significant association was found between the Place dimension and nutritional status, with rho=0.214 and p=0.028. Conclusion: Eating habits are not significantly related to the nutritional status of adolescents, so the alternative hypothesis was accepted and the null hypothesis was rejected.

El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación entre los hábitos alimenticios y el estado nutricional de los adolescentes del 4to-5to grado de secundaria de la institución educativa secundaria Melchorita Saravia-Chincha 2023. La investigación fue de método hipotético-deductivo, enfoque cuantitativo, tipo aplicada, diseño no experimental y alcance correlacional. La población estuvo conformada por 140 adolescentes con una muestra de 105 adolescentes. El instrumento fue un cuestionario y una ficha de recolección validados y confiables. Los resultados refieren que el 40,0% (42) tuvieron 15 años seguidos de 35,2% (37) de 16 años, en cuanto al sexo el 50,65% (53) fue femenino; los hábitos alimenticios fueron adecuados en las dimensiones: tipo de alimento con 61% (64), frecuencia con 53,3% (56), lugar con 70,5% (74), creencias con 62,9% (66) y economía con 74,3%; mientras que la dimensión tiempo fue inadecuada en el 79,0% (83). El estado nutricional fue normal en el 75,2% (79) de los casos, sobrepeso en el 21% (22) y obesidad en el 3,8% (4), en cuanto a la correlación de variables no se encontró asociaciones significativas entre los hábitos alimentarios y el estado nutricional siendo rho=-0.117 y p=0.235; sin embargo, se encontró asociación significativa entre la dimensión Lugar y el estado nutricional siendo rho=0.214 y p=0.028. Conclusión: Los hábitos alimenticios no se relacionan significativamente con el estado nutricional de los adolescentes, por lo que se aceptó la hipótesis alterna y se rechazó la hipótesis nula.
