The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and behavior regarding oral hygiene in 118 secondary school students aged 11 to 19 years from the Institución Educativa Integrado Agropecuaria La Florida, located in the La Florida-Perené-Chanchamayo populated center in 2015. The modified HU-DBI (Hiroshima University–Dental Behavioral Inventory) questionnaire on oral hygiene behavior and knowledge was applied, which was validated and translated into Spanish. The data were organized into tables and graphs, using descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test to establish the relationship between knowledge level and behavior. The study concluded that the level of knowledge and behavior regarding oral hygiene was regular across both genders and all ages. Furthermore, there was a direct relationship between the level of knowledge and behavior regarding oral hygiene among these students.
Resumen
El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación entre el nivel de conocimiento y conducta sobre higiene oral en 118 estudiantes de nivel secundaria de 11 a 19 años de edad de la Institución Educativa Integrado Agropecuaria La Florida, del centro poblado La Florida-Perené-Chanchamayo en el año 2015. Para el cual se aplicó el cuestionario de conducta y conocimiento en higiene oral HU-DBI (Hiroshima University–Dental Behavioural Inventory) modificado, el cual fue validado y traducido al español. Se organizaron los datos en tablas y gráficos, utilizando estadística descriptiva y prueba de Chi Cuadrado para establecer la relación entre nivel de conocimiento y conducta. Concluyéndose que el nivel de conocimiento y conducta en higiene oral en ambos géneros y en todas las edades fue regular. Asimismo, existe una relación directa entre el nivel de conocimiento y la conducta sobre higiene oral en estos estudiantes.
