An observational analytical cross-sectional study was conducted. In the 2023-II semester, medical students from a private university in Lima completed the Healthy Lifestyle Questionnaire (CEVS), the DASS 21 questionnaire (measuring depression, anxiety, and stress), and a data collection form. Sociodemographic, academic, and clinical variables associated with healthy lifestyles were measured. Results showed that 51.7% of students had healthy lifestyles. Additionally, 8.5% of students experienced depression, 21.3% had anxiety, and 45.7% experienced stress. A significant association was found between depression and stress when compared to healthy lifestyles. Conclusion: Stress and depression were the mental health disorders associated with a healthy lifestyle. It was concluded that there is a relationship between maintaining a healthy lifestyle and mental health disorders among medical students at a private university in Lima Metropolitan area, 2023.Ítem Acceso abierto Association between knowledge and attitudes about breast cancer in women who attend the output gynecology office at the Central Hospital PNP Luis N Saenz, 2024(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-08-04) Vera Rodas, Zolanch Geraldine; Rivas Rivas, Carlos AlbertoThe objective is to determine the association between knowledge and attitudes towards breast cancer in women attending the gynecology outpatient clinic at the Central PNP Luis N. Saenz Hospital in 2024. Methodology: The study has a quantitative, analytical, and cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of women aged 18 to 60 years, and the sample included 286 women attending the gynecology outpatient clinic at the Central PNP Luis N. Saenz Hospital in 2024. Results: The predominant knowledge level was high, reaching 87.2%, while 80.4% of women showed positive attitudes. Conclusion: The study found an association between high knowledge and positive attitudes (P<0.001), showing a 73% higher likelihood (RPa 1.73; IC95% 1.34-2.34; p<0.01) of women exhibiting positive attitudes towards breast cancer.Ítem Acceso abierto Association between resilience and Burnout syndrome in human medicine students at Norbert Wiener University during the 2022-1 academic semester(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-09-03) Delgado Cardenas, Caroline Ysabelha; Valladares Garrido, Mario Josue AbrahamThe general objective of this research was to determine the association between resilience and Burnout syndrome in human medicine students at Norbert Wiener University during the 2022-1 academic semester, for which a deductive method was used, a type of applied research with a quantitative approach and a non-experimental design in a sample of 223 human medicine students to whom questionnaires were applied whose purpose was value the research variables, being that they complied with the corresponding validity and reliability. The results showed that 18.4% of students presented burnout, and students with a high level of resilience had a 72% lower prevalence of present burnout. It was concluded that there is an association between resilience and depression syndrome. The aim is to identify bibliometric and thematic characteristics of the most cited articles in neurosurgery in Latin America and the Caribbean. A quantitative methodology was used for the search using Scopus, with inclusion and exclusion criteria applied. Bibliometrix and Biblioshiny App were used for bibliometric analysis and graph generation, and VOSviewer for co-authorship and keyword network maps. The results indicate an increase in scientific production in neurosurgery in the region, with an average of 21.5 citations per document and 23,893 references in the analyzed articles. A total of 1,854 keywords and 5,466 authors were identified, showing thematic and collaborative diversity. The most productive institutions include the University of São Paulo, the Federal University of São Paulo, and the State University of Campinas. Notable journals include "ARCHIVES OF NEURO-PSYCHIATRY," "SURGICAL NEUROLOGY INTERNATIONAL," and "JOURNAL OF NEUROSURGERY." The diversity of keywords suggests a wide range of research areas in neurosurgery. In conclusion, scientific production in neurosurgery in the region has significantly increased, with thematic diversity and collaborations, and key institutions and journals were identified, which may guide future research and advances in the field.Ítem Acceso abierto Characteristics and factors associated with Uterine Atony in postpartum cesarean women in a Social Security Hospital, 2018- 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-08-10) Ayala Caballero, Geraldine Andrea; Espinoza Pacheco, Jorge LuisObjective: To determine the factors associated with uterine atony in cesarean postpartum women at Hospital Suárez Angamos III during the period 2018 to 2023. Material and methods: Quantitative, analytical observational case-control study. The sample size was 144, with uterine atony as the outcome variable and sociodemographic, clinical, and laboratory covariates. A data collection sheet was used, along with descriptive and analytical statistics, calculating the crude and adjusted Odds Ratio (OR) with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: 29.17% (n=14) were over 35 years old, the median blood loss volume was 800cc (IQR: 500-2700), 62.5% (n=30) had comorbidities, 72.92% (n=35) had adequate prenatal care, 25% (n=12) had a long inter-pregnancy interval, 8.33% (n=4) had a history of uterine atony, 50% (n=24) had multiparity, 56.25% (n=27) had previous severe preeclampsia, 91.67% (n=44) had thrombocytopenia, and 79.17% (n=38) had anemia. In the crude and adjusted models using Poisson regression, no statistically significant association with uterine atony was reported. Conclusion: No statistically significant associations were found between uterine atony and sociodemographic, clinical, or laboratory factors in cesarean postpartum women.Ítem Acceso abierto Clinical and epidemiological characteristics of deceased patients with a COVID-19 diagnosis treated in the adult emergency department of a third-level hospital, March 15 – June 30, 2020(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-08-10) Valentín Benito, Erika Elizabeth; Villanueva Orue, JamesThe study conducted at a third-level hospital between March 15 and June 30, 2020, aimed to identify clinical and epidemiological characteristics in patients diagnosed with COVID-19. Using a retrospective method and quantitative approach, 253 medical records were analyzed. The findings showed a predominance of deaths among men and those over 60 years old. The most common symptoms were dyspnea, cough, and general malaise. Higher mortality was observed in the group aged 60 and above, with 83.3% in April, although it slightly decreased in May and June. Comorbidities varied by age, with hypertension and diabetes mellitus being the most common in those over 60, while in the 30-59 age range, the absence of comorbidities was more reported. The results highlight the vulnerability of the elderly population and the importance of specialized care for this group, as well as the need to identify predominant symptoms by gender to improve the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19.Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of an Educational Intervention on Knowledge and Practices of Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in Teachers of Educational Institution No. 64103 Teniente Diego Ferre Sosa, Ucayali – 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-08-05) Malpartida Silva, Isabel Gladys; Herrera Miranda, Oscar EnriqueThis study investigated how an Educational Intervention affects the knowledge and practices of Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in teachers of the Educational Institution No. 64103 Teniente Diego Ferre Sosa, Ucayali - 2023. It used a hypothetical-deductive, quantitative, applied, non-experimental, longitudinal and explanatory. 50 teachers from the institution participated, with a sample of 42. The pre-test results showed that 92.9% of the teachers had low knowledge in CPR, while the post-test revealed a significant increase: 59.5% reached a high level of knowledge, 35.7 % a medium level and only 4.8% maintained a low level. In practical CPR skills, the pretest indicated 92.9% with low effectiveness, improving to 59.5% with high effectiveness post intervention. These findings support the alternative hypothesis (H1) and reject the null hypothesis (H0), demonstrating the effectiveness of the educational intervention in improving both knowledge and practical skills of CPR among teachers.Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of the Qi Gong technique for reducing stress levels in secondary education students in the I.E.5182 Señor de los Milagros 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-08-23) León Meneses, Estrella Sadith; Lazo Manrique, Jorge ManuelQi Gong proved to be an effective short-term intervention, evidenced through the comparison of pre- and post-intervention questionnaires, using the T-test to determine significant differences. The assessments that showed the greatest decrease in score post-intervention were, first, academic stressors (mean difference of 77.14 points), second, burnout (mean difference of 17.65 points), and third, school bullying (with a difference of 9.31 points between pretest and posttest). The surveys that increased their mean scores were resilience (mean difference of -8.56) and the family Apgar (mean difference of -6.42 points). Conclusion: Significant benefits were found in psychological well-being through Qi Gong intervention, particularly in reducing academic stressors, insomnia, burnout, school bullying, anxiety, and depression, while showing improvements in resilience and family Apgar.Ítem Acceso abierto Epidemiological and clinical aspects of patients with acute appendicitis care during the Covid-19 pandemic (2020-2022) at The II-2 San Juan De Lurigancho Hospita(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-09-29) Canchihuaman Suasnabar, Mercedes del Pilar; Barrios Morocho, Juan LuisIntroduction: Acute abdomen is one of the most frequently presented syndromes in emergency centers of hospitals in Peru and worldwide. Acute appendicitis is an emergency surgical pathology with high incidence in all hospitals. COVID-19 caused a disruption in the flow of care for various pathologies, among which the aforementioned pathology may have experienced changes in its epidemiological and clinical presentation during the pandemic. Objective: To determine the epidemiological and clinical aspects of patients with acute appendicitis treated during the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2022) at Hospital II-2 San Juan de Lurigancho. Methods: Observational, cross-sectional, descriptive, and retrospective study; 262 patients were included, with the admission criterion being acute appendicitis. A percentage description, Chi-square analysis, and Odds Ratio of epidemiological and clinical aspects were developed. Results: Patients < 65 years had a higher probability of presenting complicated acute appendicitis as a pre-surgical diagnosis compared to patients > 65 years (OR: 5.54; CI: 95%); patients < 65 years had a higher probability of presenting complicated acute appendicitis as a post-surgical diagnosis compared to patients > 65 years (OR: 1.94; CI: 95%). Conclusion: The epidemiological and clinical profile of patients with acute appendicitis may have been altered during the pandemic, specifically in age group, hospitalization time, disease evolution time, pre-surgical diagnosis, pre-surgical time, and post-surgical diagnosis.Ítem Acceso abierto Factors associated with acute respiratory infections in Children under 5 years of age according to the demographic and family health survey - ENDES 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-07-03) Polo Pucho, Diego Andree; Gonzales Carrillo, Javier JoséMethodology: A quantitative, hypothetical-deductive, and cross-sectional study using secondary data from ENDES 2022. The sample included 6922 children under 60 months old. Results: The prevalence of acute respiratory infections (ARIs) in infants and children under 5 years old was 38.5%. Children aged 1 to 3 years accounted for 37.5% of ARIs (p<0.001). The lowest wealth quintile had a frequency of 31.1% (p=0.002) of ARIs, and 55.2% of children with mothers who had a secondary education experienced ARIs (p<0.001). Conclusions: Lower wealth quintile and female sex are risk factors for ARIs, while being between 1 to 5 years old and having a mother with secondary education serve as protective factors.Ítem Acceso abierto Factors associated with anemia in diabetic patients at the Buenos Aires Maternal and Child Center in Villa de Lima in the period from January to April attended by an external clinic 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-09-24) Mahmoud Ayala, Diego Alonso; Aldave Visurraga, AbelDiabetes mellitus is a group of syndromes characterized by chronic hyperglycemia due to deficient production of the hormone insulin and/or resistance to it. Objective: To determine the factors associated with anemia in diabetic patients treated at the outpatient clinic of the Buenos Aires de Villa Maternal and Child Center from January to April 2021. Methodology: An observational, analytical, retrospective cohort study was conducted, with a population of 150 patients and a sample of 109 patients. A data collection form was used to obtain variables such as age, sex, anemia, dyslipidemia, hypertension, glycated hemoglobin, BMI, and metformin dose. Results: The variables of age between 30-59 years and female sex were statistically significant for the study with a p<0.05, qualifying as factors associated with anemia in diabetic patients. The remaining variables did not show statistical significance. Conclusions: During this research, it was determined that the adult group and female sex showed a higher presence of anemia, demonstrating that these two factors are associated with the development of anemia in diabetic patients.Ítem Acceso abierto Factors associated with asthma exacerbations in hospitalized pediatric patients in a Lima hospital, 2024(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-02-22) Aliaga Cáceres, Bellanira Sara; Gonzales Carrillo, Javier JoséIntroduction: Asthma is considered one of the most prevalent chronic diseases worldwide, with children being particularly vulnerable. Asthma exacerbations, known as asthma attacks, can lead to hospitalization and intensive care, especially in pediatric populations. In Lima, pediatric asthma hospitalizations have shown an increasing trend, highlighting the urgent need to better understand contributing factors. Objective: To identify and analyze factors associated with asthma crises in hospitalized pediatric patients at a Lima hospital in 2023. Methods: Observational retrospective analytical study using electronic medical records from 72 patients divided into cases (asthmatic patients with asthma crises) and controls (asthmatic patients without asthma crises). Results: Significant factors associated with asthma crises included eczema comorbidity (p=0.006, OR=11.66), parental asthma history (p=0.001, OR=6.20), lack of inhaled corticosteroid use (p=0.000, OR=7.33), and fewer than three annual check-ups (p=0.004, OR=4.20). When combined with genetic predisposition and environmental factors, depression is more likely to develop. Although pregnancy is often regarded as a joyful time, it can also present mental health challenges, such as depression. The prevalence of depression during pregnancy is between 5-10% in international studies, affecting 10-15% of women and 5-12% of men. A study in a maternity ward in Peru found that 17% of mothers experienced depression, showing that perinatal depression is more prevalent than postpartum depression, which ranges from 8.1% to 9.1%.Ítem Acceso abierto Factors associated with the acceptance of virtual learning during the covid-19 pandemic in a school of human medicine, Lima 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-09-03) Hernández Yépez, Palmer José; Basurto Ayala, PatriciaIntroduction: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted medical education due to the suspension of in-person classes and restricted access to health facilities for practical training. Objective: To determine the factors associated with the acceptance of virtual learning during the COVID-19 pandemic among medical students in Lima in 2021. Methodology: An observational, analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted. A tool was developed to measure acceptance of virtual learning and applied to medical students at a private university during the 2021-II semester. Bivariate and regression analysis were used to estimate associations between variables. Results: 66.6% of students accepted virtual learning, while 33.4% did not. Factors associated with acceptance included marital status, school, employment status, connectivity issues, electronic devices, previous careers, previously failed courses, and study hours. Conclusion: Factors such as marital status, school, and study habits were associated with the acceptance of virtual learning.Ítem Acceso abierto Factors associated with the level of knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia in human medicine interns, Lima 2024(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-08-26) Falcón Córdova, Yulissa Leyla; Espinoza Pacheco, Jorge LuisIntroduction: Preeclampsia and eclampsia represent significant challenges in maternal health, being major causes of morbidity and mortality. During medical training, it is essential that medical interns gain substantial knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia, as they pose severe risks to maternal and fetal health. Objective: To determine the factors associated with the level of knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia among medical interns in Lima during 2024. Methods: A cross-sectional observational analytical study was conducted with medical interns from the Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener in 2024. A sample of 83 students was taken. A 20-question questionnaire was used, divided into two parts: a) prevention of preeclampsia and eclampsia; b) diagnosis and treatment of preeclampsia and eclampsia. The survey completion time was 10 minutes. Results: It was found that 51.8% of students had high knowledge, and 48.2% had low knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia. Moreover, sociodemographic factors associated with knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia were age (p=0.004), school type (p=0.015), and having children (p=0.044). Academic factors associated with knowledge were academic standing (p=0.008), internship modality (p=0.021), and IPRESS type (p=0.006). Conclusion: There are factors associated with knowledge about preeclampsia and eclampsia among medical interns in Lima during 2024.Ítem Acceso abierto Factors associated with the perception of teleconsultation usability of patients at the Edgardo Rebagliati Martins National Hospital, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-08-10) Chura Alanoca, Reyna Sofia; Basurto Ayala, PatriciaObjective of the study: To determine the factors associated with the perception of teleconsultation usability among patients at the Edgardo Rebagliati Martins National Hospital, 2023. Methodology: Observational, descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional study. The sample size consisted of 232 patients who attended teleconsultations in different specialties. The Telemedicine Usability Questionnaire was used to evaluate teleconsultation usability. Statistical analysis included univariate analysis (percentages) and bivariate analysis with the variables of interest using the Chi-square statistical test. Results: Factors associated with the perception of teleconsultation usability included educational level (p=0.005) and technical problems (p=0.000). The number of teleconsultations was associated with ease of use (p=0.015). Furthermore, the area of residence was linked to the perception of teleconsultation effectiveness (p=0.040). Finally, technical problems were associated with both effectiveness (p=0.000) and teleconsultation satisfaction (p=0.026). Conclusion: The identified factors associated with teleconsultation usability suggest improving the technical aspects of the platforms and providing digital health training to patients requiring this service as a support for in-person medical care.Ítem Acceso abierto Factors associated with therapeutic adherence in patients with hypertension in the patients with arterial hypertension at the Buenos Aires de Villa health center in the year 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-01-11) Palacios Valdez, Megume Milagros; Avilés Gonzaga, Roberto CarlosIntroduction: Chronic diseases remain a growing problem. Treatment includes lifestyle changes, pharmacological treatment, physical activity, among others. These changes require therapeutic adherence from patients. Hypertension is currently one of the most prevalent chronic diseases, with elevated blood pressure representing two-thirds and half of all cases of stroke and ischemic heart disease, respectively. Objective: To determine the factors associated with therapeutic adherence in patients with hypertension at the Buenos Aires de Villa Health Center in 2023. Methodology: Cross-sectional analytical study. The Morisky-Green instrument was used to evaluate adherence to pharmacological treatment in hypertensive patients at the Buenos Aires de Villa Health Center in Lima during 2023. Sociodemographic and clinical variables related to hypertension treatment were measured. A bivariate analysis was performed to determine the association between the studied variables. Results: It was found that 58.0% of patients had adherence to treatment, and 132 (42.0%) did not. Sociodemographic factors associated with treatment adherence were marital status (p=0.001) and living alone (p<0.001). Clinical factors associated with treatment adherence were having a comorbidity (p<0.001). Conclusion: Treatment adherence in hypertensive patients at the Buenos Aires de Villa Health Center was high; and the factors associated with treatment adherence were marital status, living alone, and having a comorbidity.Ítem Acceso abierto Factors that influence treatment adherence in diabetic patients at the Barranca Cajatambo Hospital during the period april – may, 2024(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-07-03) Quispe Aquino, Keiko Micaela; Amaya Fiestas, María DomitilaIntroduction: The WHO estimates that around 62 million people in the Americas (422 million worldwide) have diabetes; a large proportion of them live in low- and middle-income countries, and each year, 244,084 people die from this disease globally. In recent decades, there has been a constant increase in the number of cases and prevalence. For this reason, it is important to study the factors influencing treatment adherence in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and Methods: Observational, correlational, analytical cross-sectional study. A survey was replicated to evaluate factors influencing adherence, calculating a significant sample of 180 people from the diabetic foot program at Barranca Cajatambo Hospital between April-May 2024. Conclusions: Adequate basic knowledge and proper knowledge of glycemic control are associated with good treatment adherence for this condition.Ítem Acceso abierto Frequency of vertical transmission in newborns of mothers with COVID-19 treated at the National Maternal Perinatal Institute, 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-04-17) Urbano Soto, Cynthia Pamela; Espinoza Pacheco, Jorge LuisIntroduction: SARS-CoV-2 is the type of beta coronavirus responsible for the origin of COVID-19, similar to MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV. In December 2019, an outbreak occurred in Wuhan, China, and was classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). COVID-19 has high morbidity and mortality, potentially impacting the health of neonates. Objective: To determine the frequency of vertical transmission in newborns of mothers with COVID-19 treated at the INMP in 2021. Methodology: An observational, descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using the INMP 2021 database, selecting 235 clinical histories of pregnant women with COVID-19. A descriptive univariate analysis was performed regarding the frequency of each variable. Results: 235 mothers and neonates participated. 80.9% of neonates were born at term, and 19.1% were preterm. 12.3% (29/235) tested positive for COVID-19, and of these, 3% (7/235) were admitted to the COVID ICU. The mortality rate was 2.6% (6/235). Conclusion: The study found a vertical transmission frequency of COVID-19 of 12.3%, similar to other systematic review studies.Ítem Acceso abierto The global satisfaction of the patients treated in the emergency room of the CMI Piedra Liza 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-08-05) Anccasi Reyes, Mariel; Tapia Alejos, Lenin BrunelIn recent years, the professional bond between doctors and patients has declined due to the high demand for services at first-level health centers, especially in emergency services. This has highlighted the need to assess patient satisfaction in emergency departments. An observational descriptive study was conducted using the SERVQUAL survey to analyze overall satisfaction and its five dimensions. A random sample of 217 users of the emergency service at CMI Piedra Liza in 2023 participated. 56% of users were satisfied, while 44% were dissatisfied. In the reliability dimension, 60.5% were satisfied and 39.4% dissatisfied; in responsiveness, 53.3% were satisfied and 46.6% dissatisfied; in safety, 50.9% were satisfied, and 49.1% were dissatisfied; in empathy, 58.2% were satisfied and 41.8% dissatisfied; and in tangible aspects, 55.3% were satisfied and 44.7% dissatisfied. The overall satisfaction level of most users was good (56%), with 44% dissatisfaction with the care received.
