Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: effect of acid supplementation omega 3 fatty acids in the improvement of clinical signs in adult patients with rheumatoid arthritis(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-02-14) Ramírez Guzmán, Raúl Antonio; León Cáceres, Johanna del CarmenThis work addressed the topic of the effect of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation on improving clinical signs in adults with rheumatoid arthritis. A critical review of the literature was conducted, focusing on clinical studies that addressed the mentioned topic. The Evidence-Based Nutrition (EBN) methodology was used, which involved searching for scientific literature to answer the clinical question: ‘Is omega-3 fatty acid supplementation effective in improving clinical signs in adult patients with rheumatoid arthritis?’ From this search, an article was selected titled ‘Docosahexaenoic acid in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis,’ which was a randomized, crossover, double-blind, placebo-controlled study with microalgae oil versus sunflower oil. This study presented the highest levels of evidence and recommendation, and it most closely addressed the clinical question. It was concluded that the selected article is relevant for review and subsequent application in clinical practice by nutritionists and healthcare professionals in general.
