Índice coronodental y la relación pulpa/diente en la estimación de la edad dental en radiografías panorámicas de una universidad privada, 2025

Abstract

El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar la diferencia entre el índice coronodental y la relación pulpa/diente en la estimación de la edad dental en radiografías panorámicas de una universidad privada, 2025. Se desarrolló una investigación cuantitativa, aplicada, de diseño no experimental, transversal y descriptivo. Se analizaron 170 radiografías panorámicas de pacientes entre 15 y 40 años que cumplieron los criterios de selección. Para comparar las edades estimadas por ambos métodos se empleó la prueba t de Student para muestras relacionadas. En los resultados se encontró que, la edad cronológica media fue de 24,31 años (DE = 5,79), mientras que las edades estimadas mediante el índice coronodental (ITC) y la relación pulpa/diente (AR) fueron muy similares, con medias de 24,29 y 24,31 años, respectivamente. La dispersión fue menor en las edades estimadas por AR (DE = 1,53) y por ITC (DE = 3,35) que en la edad cronológica, lo que indica una concentración de las estimaciones en torno a la media. La prueba t de Student arrojó t = −0,04, gl = 169 y p = 0,969, valor superior al nivel de significancia (α = 0,05). Se concluye que no existe diferencia estadísticamente significativa entre el índice coronodental y la relación pulpa/diente en la estimación de la edad dental en radiografías panorámicas de una universidad privada, 2025.

This study aimed to determine the difference between the coronodental index and the pulp/tooth ratio in estimating dental age using panoramic radiographs from a private university in 2025. A quantitative, applied, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive design was used. A total of 170 panoramic radiographs from patients aged 15 to 40 years who met the selection criteria were analyzed. Student’s t-test for paired samples was applied to compare the ages estimated by both methods. The mean chronological age was 24.31 years (SD = 5.79), while the ages estimated using the coronodental index (ITC) and the pulp/tooth ratio (AR) were very similar, with means of 24.29 and 24.31 years, respectively. Dispersion was lower for ages estimated by AR (SD = 1.53) and ITC (SD = 3.35) than for chronological age, indicating that both methods tend to cluster their estimates around the mean. The paired Student’s t-test yielded t = −0.04, df = 169, and p = 0.969, a value above the significance level (α = 0.05).It is concluded that there is no statistically significant difference between the coronodental index and the pulp/tooth ratio in estimating dental age on panoramic radiographs from a private university in 2025.
