The objective of this study was to identify the association between clinical-epidemiological characteristics and the use of blood components in two level III-1 hospitals during 2024. A quantitative, basic, correlational, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and retrospective study was conducted. The study population consisted of patients who required blood components at the Arzobispo Loayza National Hospital and the Trujillo Regional Teaching Hospital during 2024. A sample of 374 and 359 patients, respectively, was used, and structured observation was employed as the data collection technique, using a form validated by experts as the instrument. The results indicated that packed red blood cells were the most frequently used blood component (78.3% and 88.9%, respectively); the highest usage was observed in patients aged 30 to 59 years (38.2% and 32.6%) and in females (54.3% and 61.0%). Severe anemia was the most frequent diagnosis associated with transfusion (38.8% and 31.8%), and according to the service, transfusions occurred mainly in the emergency department and general surgery (29.7% and 26.7%). No significant association was found between age (p=0.239) or sex (p=0.397) and the use of blood components; however, an association was found with the hospital service (p=0.002) and the presumptive diagnosis (p<0.001). It was concluded that there was a significant association between the use of blood components and the hospital service and presumptive diagnosis, but not between age or sex.
