The purpose of the study was to determine the level of knowledge and attitude of nursing students at the Instituto Superior Arzobispo Loayza (main campus) regarding tooth avulsion and fracture, Lima 2016. A prospective and cross-sectional study was conducted. A total of 185 sixth-cycle nursing students were evaluated. The assessment was done using a questionnaire with 18 questions about knowledge and attitude levels on tooth avulsion and fracture. The results were analyzed using the chi-square test and the Gamma coefficient. The results showed that 63.8% and 36.2% of nursing students had deficient and average knowledge levels, respectively, regarding tooth avulsion and fracture. Regarding age group and sex, the knowledge level was deficient, particularly in 69.6% of those aged 28 and older, in 64.2% of females, and in 60.9% of males. It was concluded that the knowledge level regarding tooth avulsion and fracture was deficient, and the attitude was undecided regarding both avulsion and dental fracture.
Resumen
El propósito del estudio fue determinar el nivel de conocimiento y actitud de los estudiantes de enfermería del Instituto Superior Arzobispo Loayza (sede central) sobre avulsión y fractura dental, Lima 2016. Se realizó una investigación de tipo prospectivo y de corte transversal. Para tal efecto se evaluaron a 185 estudiantes del sexto ciclo de enfermería. La evaluación se realizó mediante un cuestionario de 18 preguntas sobre nivel de conocimiento y actitud sobre avulsión y fractura dental. El análisis de los resultados se aplicó la prueba chi-cuadrado y el coeficiente de Gamma. Los resultados mostraron que un 63.8% y un 36.2% de los estudiantes de enfermería presentaron un nivel de conocimiento deficiente y regular respectivamente sobre avulsión y fractura dental. Según grupo etáreo y sexo el nivel de conocimiento fue deficiente mayormente en el 69.6% que tienen entre 28 años a mas, en el 64.2% sexo femenino y en el 60.9% del sexo masculino. Se concluye que el nivel de conocimiento sobre avulsión y fractura dental fue deficiente, la actitud indecisa frente a la avulsión y frente a la fractura dental.
