The study was descriptive, with a quantitative, cross-sectional, non-experimental approach. As an instrument, a survey was used, which was made up of 15 questions with multiple answers on iron deficiency anemia to evaluate knowledge in mothers, and a test made up of 8 items to evaluate their type of attitude towards iron deficiency anemia. The sample consisted of 80 mothers or caregivers of children diagnosed with anemia from 6 to 11 months who are treated at the Defensores de la Patria-Ventanilla Health Center, Lima 2021. Regarding the level of knowledge of the mothers or caregivers about anemia iron deficiency, it was observed that 46.25% (n=37) obtained a low level of knowledge, 36.25% (n=29) obtained a medium level of knowledge and only 17.50% (n=14) obtained a high level of knowledge. In the case of the attitude of mothers or caregivers towards the prevention of iron deficiency anemia, it was observed that 60% (n=48) of those surveyed had a favorable attitude, while 40% had an unfavorable attitude (n= 32). The level of knowledge about iron deficiency anemia in the mothers or caregivers surveyed is mostly low (46.25%), since only 17.5% obtained a high level. Most of them are unaware of the consequences of iron deficiency anemia, the foods that help the absorption of iron, as well as the foods that decrease the absorption of this mineral. The attitude shown towards the prevention of iron deficiency anemia in mothers or caregivers is favorable in 60% of those surveyed, however, the majority of them are indifferent about considering iron deficiency anemia a serious disease and about the importance of consuming citrus foods along with foods rich in iron to enhance the absorption of the aforementioned mineral.
