The present secondary research titled as a critical review: The effect of glutamine or probiotic supplementation on the intestinal permeability of surgical patients with gastrointestinal cancer, aimed to determine the effect of glutamine or probiotic supplementation on the intestinal permeability of surgical patients with gastrointestinal cancer. The clinical question was: What is the effect of glutamine or probiotic supplementation on intestinal permeability in surgical patients with gastrointestinal cancer? The Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) methodology was used. An information search was carried out in PUBMED, SCOPUS, SCIENCE DIRECT, where 47 articles were found, of which 5 were selected to be evaluated by the CASPE Critical Reading Tool, finally selecting the Randomized Clinical Trial titled “Addition of probiotics to glutamine therapy as intestinal barrier protection for severe surgical patients”, which has a level of evidence AI and Strong Recommendation Grade, according to the researcher's experience. The critical commentary concluded that the simultaneous administration of probiotics and glutamine has a synergistic and protective effect on intestinal barrier function and in reducing intestinal permeability.
Resumen
La presente investigación secundaria titulada como revisión crítica: El efecto de la suplementación con glutamina o probióticos en la permeabilidad intestinal de pacientes quirúrgicos con cáncer gastrointestinal, tuvo como objetivo determinar el efecto de la suplementación con glutamina o probióticos en la permeabilidad intestinal de pacientes quirúrgicos con cáncer gastrointestinal. La pregunta clínica fue: ¿Cuál es el efecto de la suplementación con glutamina o probióticos en la permeabilidad intestinal de pacientes quirúrgicos con cáncer gastrointestinal? Se utilizó la metodología Nutrición Basada en Evidencia (NuBE). Se realizó una búsqueda de información en PUBMED, SCOPUS, SCIENCE DIRECT, donde se encontraron 47 artículos, de los cuales 5 fueron seleccionados para ser evaluados por la Herramienta de Lectura Crítica de CASPE, seleccionándose finalmente el Ensayo Clínico Aleatorizado titulado como “Addition of probiotics to glutamine therapy as intestinal barrier protection for severe surgical patients”, el cual tiene un nivel de evidencia AI y Grado de Recomendación Fuerte, según la experiencia del investigador. El comentario crítico concluyó que la administración simultánea de probióticos y glutamina tiene un efecto sinérgico y protector sobre la función de barrera intestinal y en la disminución de la permeabilidad intestinal.
