(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Bravo Huaman, Fernando; Sánchez Manrique, Richard Michael; Chávez Flores, Juana Elvira
This pharmacological study was conducted to determine the hepatoprotective effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of Vallea stipularis L.f “Chuillur” leaves against paracetamol-induced liver damage in rats, at the Experimental Pharmacology and Animal Facility Laboratory, Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener. A descriptive, experimental, and prospective design was applied using adult female Holtzman albino rats. Method: hepatotoxicity was induced with paracetamol. Forty-eight rats (220–240 g) were randomly distributed into six groups of eight animals each and maintained under identical diet and housing conditions. Treatments were administered orally for five consecutive days: Group I received saline solution (5 mL/kg), Group II paracetamol (250 mg/kg), Group III silymarin (50 mg/kg), and Groups IV–VI hydroalcoholic extract of V. stipularis leaves (200, 400, and 600 mg/kg, respectively). Twenty hours after the experimental stage, animals were anesthetized and sacrificed for blood collection and histopathological analysis. Biochemical parameters (serum transaminases, alkaline phosphatase, total, direct, and indirect bilirubin) were evaluated. Results were analyzed using Student’s t-test with significance set at p < 0.05. The control group exhibited hyperemic foci, inflammatory signs, and apoptotic cells, whereas groups treated with the extract showed normal hepatic parenchyma. These findings suggest that the hydroalcoholic extract of V. stipularis leaves exerts a hepatoprotective effect against paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity.

(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-07-18) Barrera Perez, Elsa; Romero Ccasani, Danny Daniel; Chávez Flores, Juana Elvira
Objective: The present research aims to verify the sedative and anxiolytic effects of the ethanolic extract of the bark of Brunfelsia grandiflora D. Don ("chiric sanango") in albino mice. Methods: Solubility testing and preliminary qualitative analysis were conducted to identify secondary metabolites. To demonstrate the sedative effect, the hole-board test method was used on 40 albino mice at different doses (60, 80, and 100 mg/kg) orally (VO) compared to diazepam at 10 mg/kg, with a 5-minute evaluation period. The anxiolytic effect was assessed using the marble-burying method on 40 albino mice at doses of 5, 10, and 15 mg/kg orally (VO), also compared to diazepam at 10 mg/kg, with a 30-minute evaluation period. Results: The ethanolic extract of the bark of Brunfelsia grandiflora D. Don ("chiric sanango") at a concentration of 100 mg/kg exhibited a sedative effect comparable to the standard diazepam at 10 mg/kg, with an inhibitory effect of 70.6%. Additionally, the ethanolic extract at a concentration of 15 mg/kg demonstrated a greater anxiolytic effect than the standard diazepam at 10 mg/kg, with an inhibitory effect of 80.1%. Conclusion: The sedative and anxiolytic effects of the ethanolic extract of the bark of Brunfelsia grandiflora D. Don ("chiric sanango") were demonstrated in albino mice.

(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2025-09-29) Palomino Huaraca, Ines; Pulache Suncion, Aury Anais; Pineda Pérez, Neuman Mario
