Efficacy of the use of self-adhesive mesh versus conventional mesh in the prevention of postoperative complications of inguinal hernioplasty in the general surgery service

Objectives: Determine the effectiveness of using self-adhesive mesh versus conventional mesh in post-inguinal hernioplasty patients. Methodology/Methods: Systematic reviews are the best effort to compile and synthesize scientific evidence on the topic, through a method that ensures that the biases and limitations that we have mentioned in 8 scientific articles published and indexed in the databases, which corresponds to articles published in Spanish. Results: In the final selection, 8 articles were chosen, we found that 20% (02) correspond to Chile, and 10% (1) in Mexico, Spain, Bolivia, Colombia, USA, Cuba respectively. Among the articles we have (6) experimental, quasi-experimental (1), cases and controls (1). Where the total of articles analyzed 60% affirm that the use of self-adhesive mesh compared to conventional mesh is long-term benefit in hernias inguinal. Conclusions: It was evident in the reviewed research that there is effectiveness of self-adhesive mesh and polypropylene mesh in preventing postoperative complications in inguinal hernia with supposed benefits in reducing surgical time and reducing postoperative pain without increasing the number of complications or recurrences.
Resumen
Objetivos: Determinar la eficacia del uso de la malla autoadhesiva frente a la malla convencional en pacientes postoperados de hernioplastia inguinal. Metodología/Métodos: Las revisiones sistemáticas son el mejor esfuerzo por recopilar y sintetizar evidencia científica sobre tema, a través de un método que asegure que los sesgos y limitaciones a los que hemos hecho mención 8 artículos científicos publicados e indizados en las bases de datos, que corresponde a artículos publicados en idioma español. Resultados: En la selección definitiva se eligieron 8 artículos, encontramos que el 20% (02) corresponden a Chile, y 10% (1) en México, España, Bolivia, Colombia, EEUU., Cuba respectivamente. Entre los artículos tenemos (6) experimental, cuasi experimental (1), casos y controles (1).Donde el total de artículos analizados 60% afirma que el uso de la malla autoadhesiva frente a la malla convencional es beneficio a largo plazo en hernias inguinales. Conclusiones: Se evidenció en las investigaciones revisadas que existe eficacia de la malla autoadhesiva y la malla polipropileno en prevención de las complicaciones postoperatorias en hernia inguinal con supuestos beneficios en reducción del tiempo quirúrgico y disminución del dolor postoperatorio sin incrementar el número de complicaciones ni recidivas.
