Objective: Systematize evidence on the effectiveness of palliative care to improve the quality of life in children with cancer. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The study is a systematic observational and retrospective review of articles with full text, in which their grade or quality of evidence was identified according to the Grade System. The population was made up of 10 articles obtained from the following databases in Pubmed, Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, Dialnet, Scielo, and Lilacs search engines. Of which 90% (9/10) correspond to systematic reviews and 10% (1/10) to literature reviews, of these 60% (6/10) correspond to the United States, 10% to the United Kingdom ( 1/10), Germany 10% (1/10), Canada 10% (1/10), and Colombia 10% (1/10). Results: Of the 10 articles reviewed, 100% demonstrate that palliative care is effective in improving the quality of life in children with cancer. Conclusions: 100% of the articles show that palliative care is effective in improving the quality of life in children with cancer; helping in the prevention and relief of pain, anguish, reducing stress levels, anxiety, and fear associated with the disease; raising their quality of life, both for the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of the child and their family.
Resumen
Objetivo: Sistematizar las evidencias sobre la eficacia de los cuidados paliativos para mejorar la calidad de vida en niños con cáncer. MATERIAL Y MÉTODO: El estudio es una revisión sistemática observacional y retrospectivo, de artículos con texto completo, en los que se identificó su grado o calidad de la evidencia según el Sistema Grade. La población estuvo conformada por 10 artículos obtenidos de las siguientes bases de datos en buscadores Pubmed, Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library, Dialnet, Scielo, y Lilacs. De los cuales el 90% (9/10) corresponden a revisiones sistemáticas y 10% (1/10) a revisión de la literatura, de estos 60% (6/10), corresponde a Estados Unidos, al Reino Unido 10% (1/10), Alemania 10% (1/10), Canadá 10% (1/10), y Colombia 10% (1/10). Resultados: De los 10 artículos revisados, el 100% demuestran que los cuidados paliativos son eficaces para mejorar la calidad de vida en niños con cáncer. Conclusiones: Los artículos, en un 100% evidencian que los cuidados paliativos son eficaces para mejorar la calidad de vida en los niños con cáncer; ayudando en la prevención y alivio del dolor, la angustia, disminuyendo los niveles de estrés, la ansiedad, el temor asociado por la enfermedad; elevando su calidad de vida, tanto para el bienestar, físico, emocional y espiritual del niño y su familia.
